The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has officially announced that its students are eligible to apply for the 2024/2025 NELFund (Nigerian Education Loan Fund) loan scheme.
This confirmation puts to rest earlier circulating reports that claimed OAU students would be excluded from the federal government’s student loan initiative.
In a statement released on Wednesday, May 8, 2025, the University Management disclosed that students of the institution can begin their loan applications from Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The administration urged students to visit the official NELFund website to commence the process promptly on the stated date.
“Please be informed that OAU students can commence applying for the 2024/2025 NELFund Loan exercise as from Wednesday, 14th May, 2025.
Please check the NELFund website to start the application process as from that date.”, the statement read in part.
Students who have previously registered with NELFund can log in using the link: https://portal.nelf.gov.ng/auth/login, while new applicants are advised to create an account via https://portal.nelf.gov.ng/auth/register.
The university also warned the public and students to disregard any false reports suggesting that OAU students are not eligible for the loan.
This development follows ongoing efforts by the Federal Government of Nigeria to improve access to higher education through interest-free student loans under the NELFund scheme, aimed at reducing financial barriers for indigent students in public tertiary institutions.
The OAU Management, in its concluding remarks, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that its students benefit fully from all available federal education support initiatives.
For more updates and guidance on the NELFund application process, students are encouraged to follow official university channels and NELFund communications.
