A group of legal practitioners under the umbrella of Ife Lawyers in conjunction with Ife Law Students Society and Equity Chambers of the Faculty of Law of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife is organizing a public lecture in honour of Prof. Wahab Egbewole on his appointment as the Vice-chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Egbewole, a Professor of International Law and Jurisprudence and Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN) assumed office as the 11th Vice-chancellor of the prestigious institution on 15th of October, 2022 after having served as an academic member of staff for twenty-five years.
The lecture with the topic, "Electoral Reform; Is BVAS a Game Changer or Mirage" will be delivered by the legal luminary, Mr. Sola Ojutalayo(SAN) on Monday, 20th February, 2023 at the New Moot Court, Faculty of Law, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife by 9:00 AM.
The epoch event is expected to have in attendance eminent personalities including the Chairman of the Occasion, Hon. Justice Jimi Bada(JCA) and Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, Vice-chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University who is expected as the special guest.
Expected as The Royal Father of the Day is His Imperial Majesty, the Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife.
Hailed from Ifetedo in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, Prof. Agbewole is both a legal icon and a scholar. He was called to the Nigerian Bar on 20th August, 1985.
He served in various capacities in the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin including the office of Dean between 2010 and 2012.
Between 2015 and 2018, he served as the Director of General Studies Division of the University. He is a member of several learned societies. At the 2015 International Bar Association held in Vienna, Austria he was unanimously elected as Newsletter Editor of the IBA Committee on Negligence and Damages.
In January, 2018, he was elected the Vice-Chair of the same Committee for two years and later elected as the Chair of the Committee in 2020. He has published widely in the areas of Jurisprudence and Legal Theory, Juvenile Justice, Child Rights, Public International Law, Judicial Process, Law and Development and has many books in his name.
He has also won many grants for researches in Law and Society as well as a Principal Researcher on the Law and Disability Right grant awarded by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
On 24th September, 2018 he was sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the highest professional ranking for lawyers in Nigeria.
