Court Remands Couple in Osun Over Alleged Visa Fraud


An Ilesa Magistrates' Court on Friday, remanded one Oyedijo David, 44 and his wife, Oyedijo Eunice, 39, over alleged Visa fraud amounting to N8 million.

The Defendants, pleaded guilty to five-count charge of conspiracy, intent to commit felony, false pretence, fraud and stealing.

Magistrate Bose Idowu asked the defence counsel, Mr Chidera Eze, to come by way of formal application for the bail of his clients.

Idowu therefore ordered for the remand of the defendants in Ilesa Nigerian Correctional Service pending the consideration of their bail.  

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Jimoh Mufutau, told the court that the defendants committed the offence sometimes in 2021, at Ilesa.

Mufutau said that the defendants conspired between themselves to commit felony to wit: obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.

He adding that the defendants obtained the sum of N4.5 million form one Aluko Kikelomo under pretence with intent of procuring a traveling Visa to USA for her son, Timieyin Aluko, which known fully well to be false.

According to him, the defendants fraudulently stole and converted N4.5 million of Aluko Kikelomo, to their own use.

The Prosecutor stated further that the defendants also defrauded one Famadewa Samuel, by obtained the sum of N3.5 million from him, under pretence of procuring his travelling Visa to USA, which known to be false.

He explained further that the defendants stole and converted the sum of N3.5 million of Famadewa Samuel to their own use.

Mufutau stated that the offence contravened sections: 383(1), 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.     

The case was adjourned until 15 Nov, for hearing.
