House of Akoraye Trains 130 Youths of Modakeke in Vocations


No fewer than a hundred and thirty young persons are to benefit from this year's edition of the annual House of Akoraye vocational training programme.

The convener, Sumbola Temitope, disclosed this at a public lecture and grand opening of the 5th edition of the programme held at the Modakeke Town hall on Tuesday.

Sumbola noted that the initiative which is under the sponsorship of His Royal Majesty, Oba Joseph Olubiyi Toriola Ajibise Ogo I, the Ogunsua of Modakeke, is geared towards helping the less privileged youths in the community to acquire skills that will make them self-reliant and useful members of the society.

The six months training programme, according to him, will equip participants with skills in various categories including Fashion Designing, Hairdressing, Makeup Artistry, Bag Making, Catering and Barbing, among others. 

Speaking on the topic, "The Importance of Vocational Skills in the Society", the guest lecturer, Evang. Timothy Olanrewaju Adegbenle STIMA, emphasized the need for vocational skills acquisition by the teeming unemployed youths in the country to achieve economic sustainability.

He stressed the need for every member of the society to be productive as this, according to him, will help in reducing inflation and achieve self-sufficiency for the nation.

"The only solution to end inflation and overcome economic hardship is for everybody to be productive. You can imagine what happens for example if everyone produces a particular commodity, it means nobody will need to struggle after buying it. It is also very important to study yourselves and identify your God given talent and next you work on developing it.", he stated.

In is speech, the Bobagunwa of Modakeke, Chief Ezekiel Ojebode, commended the organizers of the programme for a job well done, urging them to keep up the good work.

Also contributing, an Osogbo based livestock farmer, Mr Akiniyi Akinleye, spoke on the best practices in the rearing of broilers which served as a plus for the trainees and other attendants of the event.

Some of the trainees who attended the lecture, expressed their excitement at the programme and thanked the House of Akoraye and Oba Toriola in particular for his magnanimity.

Highlight of the occasion included the presentation of meritorious awards to deserving individuals for their contributions to the progress of the Modakeke town and the society at large.
