A high-powered continental delegation led by Ambassador Dr. Young Piero Omatseye, Africa Coordinator of the African Union Simulation and Director of Parliament for Africa, Caribbean & Pacific Joint Sessions, visited the Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife on May 9, 2025.

The delegation officially informed Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, of his nomination as the Grand Patron of Traditional Institutions in Africa ahead of the upcoming Africa Day celebration in Abuja.

According to a statement signed by Otunba Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni's Palace, Ambassador Omatseye stated that the Ooni's nomination is a continental honor recognizing his leadership and cultural influence across Africa.

The Africa Day celebration holds significant importance as it commemorates the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now known as the African Union (AU), on May 25, 1963. This momentous occasion symbolizes Africa's unity, solidarity, and collective determination to drive progress and development across the continent.

The 2025 celebration will feature a blend of cultural traditions, training expeditions, and youth empowerment initiatives, with participation from African Heads of State, Ministers, Resident Ambassadors, and global partners.

Ambassador Omatseye highlighted the Ooni's visionary leadership and commitment to youth development, noting that Her Regal Majesty, Amb. (Dr.) Temitope Enitan Ogunwusi, had previously graced a similar empowerment event at the African Union Headquarters in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia.

He expressed gratitude to the Ooni for his tireless efforts in empowering African youth through initiatives like the Hope's Alive Initiative and the annual Royal African Young Leadership Forum (RAYLF).

Her Regal Majesty Amb. (Dr.) Temitope Enitan Ogunwusi lauded the African Union Simulation for recognizing the Ooni's commitment to youth empowerment and community development.

She stated, "My husband's throne has become a platform for youth transformation across Africa. This prestigious nomination affirms the values he champions for the betterment of young Africans."

In response, the Ooni expressed heartfelt appreciation for the continental honor, emphasizing that his reign is anchored on elevating African youth.

He declared, "I thank the entire delegation and African youth who have traveled from across the continent to present this honor. I pray for the success of the Africa Day celebration and assure you of my support and presence, God willing."

The visit concluded with the presentation of an official nomination plaque to the Ooni of Ife, symbolizing his new role as Grand Patron of Traditional Institutions in Africa.
