“A River That Forgets Its Source Will Run Dry” — Moniepoint CEO Tosin Eniolorunda Reflects on Meeting Ooni of Ife

Says Engagement Reinforced Power of Innovation and Tradition

Moniepoint Chief Executive Officer, Tosin Eniolorunda, has shared reflections on his recent engagement with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, describing the encounter as a meaningful convergence of tradition, leadership, and innovation.

In his reflection, Eniolorunda began with a Yoruba proverb: “Odo ti o ba gbagbe orisun re, yóò gbe,” translated as “A river that forgets its source will eventually run dry,” noting its symbolic relevance to the visit.

He said he was warmly received at the palace in Ile-Ife and engaged in discussions with the Ooni centered on technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, education, and youth empowerment as tools for national development.

According to him, the Ooni expressed strong interest in how technology can be leveraged to unlock opportunities for young Nigerians and accelerate progress across key sectors of the economy.

Eniolorunda also noted a moment during the engagement where the Ooni remarked that everyone within the palace uses Moniepoint, a statement he described as a reminder of the human impact behind financial technology and its growing role in everyday life.

He further highlighted the monarch’s support for the recently announced Innovation Hub initiative, describing it as an encouraging alignment between traditional leadership and modern innovation ecosystems.

He added that the conversation reinforced the importance of collaboration between cultural institutions and technology builders in shaping the future of Nigeria.

Eniolorunda concluded by expressing gratitude for the hospitality received at the palace and appreciation to the royal chiefs of Ile-Ife for their reception.
