Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has presented the staff of office and instrument of appointment to the newly installed Olojudo of Ido-Osun, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ishola Olayinka Oyetunde Jokotola II.
The event, which attracted dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and members of the Ido-Osun community, marked the official ascension of Oba Jokotola to the throne following the demise of the late Oba Aderemi Adedapo.
The selection and appointment of the new monarch received formal approval from the Osun State Executive Council in November 2024.
According to the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the selection followed due process and conformed with the 1956 Registered Declaration, which outlined that it was the turn of the Adenko Ruling House to produce the next Olojudo.
Delivering the instruments of office to the new monarch, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as vital partners in governance, peacebuilding, and community development.
Governor Adeleke urged the new monarch to uphold the values of unity, justice, and cultural pride in his leadership.
The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, who also serves as the Permanent Chairman of the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, was present at the ceremony in a show of royal solidarity and cultural leadership.
His presence lent prestige to the occasion and symbolized the deep-rooted unity among Yoruba monarchs. As a foremost custodian of Yoruba tradition and spiritual heritage, the Ooni’s support not only endorsed the new Olojudo’s ascension but also reinforced the enduring relevance of traditional institutions in contemporary governance and communal harmony.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Jokotola expressed profound gratitude to the state government and the people of Ido-Osun for their support. He pledged to work tirelessly to foster peace, progress, and inclusive development in the community, aligning with the broader objectives of the Adeleke-led administration.
Since his appointment, the new Olojudo has embarked on familiarization and goodwill visits to prominent traditional rulers across Yorubaland. Notable among these were his visits to the Timi of Ede, Oba Muniru Adesola Lawal Laminisa I, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
These visits, characterized by warmth and camaraderie, reflect the unity among Yoruba monarchs and their shared commitment to cultural preservation and regional cooperation.
The ascension of Oba Jokotola is widely seen as a new chapter for Ido-Osun, expected to usher in renewed energy, cultural revival, and developmental strides under his royal leadership.
