President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment to combating insurgency and ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians.Â
Addressing a delegation from the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria at the State House in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized that his government will not condone any form of evil masquerading as insurgency.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Policy Communications, Daniel Bwala, President Tinubu assured that Nigeria’s security agencies are fully equipped and committed to restoring peace nationwide.Â
“This administration is committed to addressing insecurity and will not tolerate any form of evil. Crime is crime and has no religious or tribal coloration. The security forces have fresh marching orders to deal decisively with all criminal activities,” Bwala stated.
The President also highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to security, involving cooperation with state governors to address the root causes of insecurity.
“We are engaging with state governors to address root causes of insecurity. It may exist to a certain degree, but rest assured we are committed to ensuring citizens can pursue their dreams in a secured environment,” he added.
President Tinubu called for a broad-based national consensus to effectively tackle insecurity, urging that evil must be identified and addressed without bias. “Everyone agrees that evil is evil and crime is crime, without shielding or politicizing it,” he stated.
Beyond security, the President discussed his administration’s economic reforms, noting that they are yielding tangible results across several indicators. He urged religious leaders and citizens alike to continue supporting these efforts to sustain the momentum of economic recovery, increased state revenues, and reduced industrial actions.
The General Secretary of the Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Archbishop Chivir Chianson, who led the delegation, praised the President for his commitment to reform and national unity.
He commended the recent approval for recruitment and deployment of forest guards to secure the country’s forest reserves, describing it as a critical step toward curbing criminal activities.
Archbishop Chianson also lauded the President’s approach to appointments, particularly for their inclusivity and fairness. “The Church in Nigeria is impressed with his appointments so far. The choice of Senator George Akume, a Christian, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation was particularly appreciated as a sign of positive change,” he said.
He reaffirmed the Church's support for the Tinubu administration and its “Renewed Hope” agenda. “We will continue to support President Tinubu’s administration, as we believe in the Renewed Hope agenda,” Chianson affirmed.
The General Secretary also announced the group’s upcoming 2025 Synod, which will focus on prayers for national peace and good governance, as well as training and empowering members. The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria boasts over 900 members nationwide.
Other dignitaries present at the meeting included Archbishop James Malijit, Deputy National President North; Archbishop Joseph Jatau Yari, National Vice-President North West; Archbishop Alexander Nyoonkyeh, Overseer of Benue Province; and Bishop David Gyang, Overseer of Plateau Province, among others.
