The Ooni of Ife, Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his election as Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO).
Adeniyi's appointment marks a historic milestone as he becomes the first Nigerian to lead the global customs body, an achievement the Ooni described as “a profound international honour and a moment of immense pride for Nigeria and the Oduduwa race.”
In a congratulatory statement signed by the Palace Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the Ooni emphasized that the feat goes beyond individual accomplishment and symbolizes Nigeria's rising influence on the global stage.
“This remarkable achievement is not just a personal victory but a national milestone that reflects the resilience, excellence, and global relevance of Nigeria and the Oduduwa descendants in international leadership,” Ooni Ogunwusi said.
His Imperial Majesty praised CGC Adeniyi’s professional integrity, unwavering dedication, and decades of exemplary service, noting that these qualities have earned him the respect and trust of the international customs community.
He also commended the continuity of African leadership at the helm of the WCO, following the tenure of South Africa’s Edward Kieswetter.
“As the Natural Father of the Oduduwa race worldwide, I commend your sterling professionalism and consistent commitment to service. Your journey is a powerful inspiration to young Africans aspiring to shape the future of international governance with competence and integrity,” the Ooniremarked.
Speaking on behalf of the House of Oduduwa and the global Yoruba community, the Ooni offered prayers for ancestral wisdom and divine guidance in Adeniyi’s new global role. He expressed strong confidence in his capacity to lead the WCO Council with fairness, excellence, and vision.
The Ooni also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his foresight in appointing Bashir Adeniyi as the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service two years ago — a move that laid the foundation for this historic international recognition.
