The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a wanted suspected assassin, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Eso.
Akinwande, aged 44, was apprehended during a tactical operation carried out by police operatives in the Agbado area of Ogun State.
According to the police, he had been on the command’s most wanted list for years over a series of violent crimes, including multiple murders, armed robbery, kidnapping, and cult-related killings across Mushin and other parts of Lagos.
Confirming the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Adegoke Fayoade, described the suspect as a hardened and dangerous criminal who led a violent gang responsible for several high-profile killings and attacks.
Items recovered during the raid include two AK-47 rifles, one K2 rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally made single-barrel pistols, five magazines, 57 live cartridges, 70 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 27 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56mm round, a dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to different individuals.
The police stated that the suspect had been evading arrest for over a decade and was linked to numerous cases currently under investigation. At least four families have reportedly identified him as the person responsible for the murder of their relatives.
Commissioner Fayoade directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to lead a special team to carry out further investigations and ensure that all persons connected to the gang are brought to justice.
The suspect is currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
