As part of the build-up to the globally renowned Olojo Festival 2025, the ancient city of Ile-Ife is set to host the 7th Edition of the World Chess Tournament, a FIDE-rated rapid competition that will bring together elite players, rising talents, and cultural enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond.
Jointly Organised by Raia Rooks Chess Academy, Ile-Ife; Prince Adeyinka Adewole, Vice President of Nigeria Chess Federation and CASW in partnership with Hopes Alive Initiative (HAI) under the leadership of His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, Chief Convener, and Her Regal Majesty, Olori Amb (Dr) Temitope Enitan-Ogunwusi, Deputy Convener, the tournament is scheduled for 19th – 21st September, 2025, at the prestigious Ife Grand Resorts, Ile-Ife, with a total prize fund of ₦1.5 million.
While Raia Rooks Chess Academy, CASW, and the Nigeria Chess Federation will oversee the technical organisation, the onus of this year’s tournament rests on Their Majesties, symbolising the royal commitment to intellectual excellence, youth empowerment, and cultural rebirth.
The event features a Rapid Time Control format (15 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move), making it a highly competitive and entertaining spectacle.
Prize Categories
The prize distribution covers multiple categories to ensure inclusivity:
Open (Over 2000 rating) – Top prize of ₦200,000
Under 2000 rating – Top prize of ₦150,000
Ladies Category – Top prize of ₦80,000
Knockout Section – Top prize of ₦200,000
Juniors (U14) – Top prize of ₦40,000
Special recognition will also be given to outstanding performances across the board, reflecting the festival’s theme of “Cultural Rebirth” through intellectual excellence.

The 7th Edition of the Olojo Festival World Chess Tournament is endorsed by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF), in collaboration with Raia Rooks Chess Academy, Prince Adeyinka Adewole, CASW, and the Hopes Alive Initiative (HAI).
The tournament is expected to attract players from diverse backgrounds while also serving as a platform to inspire local youth and promote sports tourism in Osun State.
The first 30 registered players will receive free accommodation, underscoring the organisers’ commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
