According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the vehicle collided with a stationary truck after reportedly losing control during an overtaking manoeuvre. The SUV was said to be carrying five adult males, including Joshua, when the accident occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time.

Authorities confirmed that Anthony Joshua survived the crash and was conscious at the scene. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment. Medical officials later confirmed that the boxer was in stable condition and did not require emergency surgical intervention.

Video footage that circulated shortly after the incident showed Joshua being assisted away from the wreckage, visibly shaken but alive, sparking relief among fans and supporters around the world.

Fatalities Confirmed

Tragically, two occupants of the vehicle died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Nigerian authorities later identified the deceased as Sina Ghami, Joshua’s physiotherapist and strength coach, and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, a trainer and close associate.

Both men were described as integral members of Joshua’s camp, having played key roles in his recent training and preparation. News of their deaths triggered an outpouring of tributes and condolences from the boxing community, sports professionals, and fans across multiple countries.

Official Response

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Ogun State Police Command, were deployed to the scene to manage the situation and secure the area. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that standard post-accident investigations were carried out, with findings documented and forwarded to relevant authorities in line with established procedures.

Law enforcement agencies extended condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the public that the circumstances surrounding the crash would be fully reviewed.

Public and International Reaction

The incident generated widespread reactions both within Nigeria and internationally, particularly given Joshua’s Nigerian heritage and strong following in the country. Social media platforms were flooded with messages expressing sympathy for the bereaved families and relief at the boxer’s survival.

Prominent figures, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as international boxing stakeholders such as promoter Eddie Hearn, expressed concern and offered prayers and support to those affected by the tragedy.

Representatives close to Joshua later acknowledged the outpouring of goodwill and conveyed appreciation for the messages of support received. The boxer himself has not released a detailed public statement, choosing instead to focus on recovery and quiet reflection.

Broader Context
