The ancient city of Ile-Ife, cradle of the Yoruba race, came alive in a vibrant celebration of culture, pride, and homecoming as the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, warmly received renowned Nigerian music sensation, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, alongside his mother at the historic Ile Oodua Palace.
Declaring the moment deeply personal and symbolic, the revered monarch described the visit as the return of a son to his roots.
“Today fills my heart with deep joy as I welcome my son, Asake, back home to Ile-Ife. This sacred land is where he spent many of his formative years, moulded by hard work, discipline, and quiet determination. To return home after such a journey is a blessing,” the Ooni stated.
The monarch, who is also the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC) and Permanent Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), praised Asake for carrying Yoruba identity, language, rhythm, and values onto the global stage, describing him as a worthy cultural ambassador of the Odùduwà heritage.
Asake arrived at the palace in the company of popular media personality Idowu Adeyemi (Yhemolee), students of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and a large number of fans and supporters.
The reception was marked by traditional chants, rhythmic drumming, prayers, and colourful cultural performances that echoed the rich history and spiritual depth of the Yoruba people.
Visibly moved by the occasion, the award-winning artiste expressed profound gratitude to the Ooni for the fatherly reception and royal blessings, describing the moment as humbling and unforgettable.
In an emotional display of reverence, Asake broke into songs of praise, extolling the virtues, ancestry, and enduring greatness of the throne of Odùduwà.
In a touching highlight of the ceremony, the Ooni paid glowing tribute to Asake’s mother, acknowledging her sacrifices, steadfast support, and unwavering prayers throughout her son’s journey to global stardom.
“She is indeed the true producer of Asake — a woman whose love, resilience, and strength shaped the man we celebrate today,” the monarch said, as he presented her with special royal gifts in recognition of her sacrifices.
The Ooni also extended heartfelt appreciation to Lala and the entire crew who have stood firmly by the artiste over the years, noting that their loyalty and dedication embody the true spirit of Omoluabi.
Further underscoring the importance of roots and formative influence, the Ooni commended Professor Toyin Ogundeji and Obafemi Awolowo University for nurturing one of the most influential musical icons of this generation.
“I equally appreciate Obafemi Awolowo University for nurturing one of the greatest musical icons of our time — a cultural ambassador who has proudly carried Yoruba heritage to the world,” he added.
In a symbolic gesture of identity and continuity, the Ooni presented Asake with a sacred Ife artwork, representing history, pride, and the unbreakable bond between the global music star and his ancestral homeland.
Praying for continued divine guidance, the Ooni invoked Olódùmarè to guide Asake’s steps and crown his career with even greater achievements, while applauding the artiste for remembering his roots — a virtue he described as worthy of honour.
“Today, my son has returned home. A global star has come back to his roots. Ile-Ife receives you with pride,” the Ooni declared.
