The sacred throne of Oduduwa has entered a moment of deep reflection as the Ooni of Ife, Arole Oduduwa and Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, paid glowing tribute to Princess Rafatu Ademinure Awofisayo, the last surviving child of Ooni Ademiluyi Ajagun, who transitioned at the age of 102.
In an official statement issued by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, the revered monarch described her transition as the close of a remarkable era, a living link to a defining chapter in the royal history of Ile-Ife.
According to the Ooni, the life of Princess Awofisayo is one that calls for honour and celebration, not sorrow. He noted that her 102-year journey was marked by profound service to humanity, steadfast faith, and an enduring commitment to the preservation of Yoruba royal heritage.
Her legacy, the Ooni emphasized, is deeply rooted in her spiritual influence across Ifeland, particularly through her role as Iya Adinni, where she stood as a pillar within the Muslim community. He commended her unwavering dedication to the growth of Islam, highlighting her role in fostering unity, discipline, and compassion among adherents within Ile-Ife and beyond.
“Kabiyesi noted that Mama was more than a royal figure; she was a spiritual beacon and a bridge between generations, whose life reflected divine grace and purpose,” the statement read part.
Reflecting on her lineage, the Ooni stated that Princess Awofisayo upheld the legacy of her father, Ooni Ademiluyi Ajagun, with dignity and pride, preserving the traditions and values of the Oodua race with exceptional grace.
He further described her as a woman of humility, wisdom, and motherly strength, one who nurtured generations, guided many, and earned widespread respect across religious and cultural divides.
The Ooni urged the people of Ifeland and beyond to honour her memory by embracing lives of purpose, unity, and faith, noting that her century-long journey stands as a testament to a life richly blessed.
