The Ooni of Ife, Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has received the Osun State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Najeem Salaam, at the revered Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife, in a visit marked by traditional rites, political engagement, and calls for institutional collaboration.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, the ADC flagbearer arrived alongside party leaders, loyalists, and supporters, and was warmly welcomed by the monarch in the presence of respected traditional rulers from across Osun State.
During the engagement, Dr. Salaam, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, paid homage to the throne of Oduduwa and sought royal blessings as he prepares for the forthcoming governorship election. He reiterated his commitment to restoring the dignity of traditional institutions and reintegrating indigenous governance structures into the state’s development framework.
“Kabiyesi, I have God and you. I believe with that, all things are possible. I have come to seek your royal blessings. If I am privileged to emerge as governor, I will ensure that the lost values of our society are restored,” he said. “What is largely affecting us in Yorubaland today is the neglect and lack of proper regard for our traditional rulers. Our indigenous systems, which we have sidelined, hold the key to solving many of our societal challenges.”
Dr. Salaam further assured that his administration would prioritise the welfare and constitutional recognition of traditional rulers. He noted his longstanding advocacy for their inclusion in governance matters, particularly in areas concerning local government administration and resource allocation.
On security, the ADC candidate proposed a decentralised, community-based policing model anchored on traditional institutions. He suggested that local hunters and vigilante groups, operating under the supervision of traditional rulers, could play a critical role in strengthening grassroots security across the state.
In his response, the Ooni commended the governorship aspirant for his humility, cultural awareness, and respect for Yoruba traditions. The monarch described him as a true Omoluabi, noting that his leadership philosophy reflects integrity, responsibility, and a deep understanding of heritage values.
The Ooni emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration between political leaders and traditional institutions, describing such synergy as essential for achieving lasting peace, stability, and development in society. He urged Dr. Salaam to remain committed to the people and to uphold the dignity of traditional authority if entrusted with public office.
The royal father thereafter offered prayers for divine guidance, wisdom, and success in Dr. Salaam’s political journey, formally bestowing his blessings in line with longstanding cultural traditions.
