The Ooni of Ife and Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), His Imperial Majesty, Arole Oodua Olofin Adimula, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and the world on the celebration of this year’s Eid-ul-Kabir, urging the faithful to uphold the values of peace, sacrifice, love, tolerance, and national unity as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim.
In a congratulatory message issued on Wednesday through the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, the revered monarch described Eid-ul-Kabir as a spiritually significant festival that teaches total obedience to God, compassion for humanity, selflessness, and peaceful coexistence among people of different backgrounds.
The Ooni, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN), called on Muslims to use the sacred occasion to offer fervent prayers for Nigeria, especially at a time the nation continues to face economic and security challenges.
According to the foremost traditional ruler, collective prayers, patriotism, and unity among citizens remain critical to achieving lasting peace, stability, and national development.
Ooni Ogunwusi stressed that insecurity and other societal problems should not be left for government alone to tackle, noting that every Nigerian has a responsibility to contribute towards promoting peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence irrespective of ethnic, political, or religious affiliations.
“The lessons and sacrifices associated with Eid-ul-Kabir should inspire Nigerians to show greater love for one another, support the less privileged, and contribute meaningfully to initiatives that strengthen national harmony and peaceful living,” the statement noted.
The monarch also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing efforts aimed at addressing insecurity and stabilising the nation’s economy, while urging Nigerians to continue supporting the government through lawful conduct, constructive engagement, and collective responsibility.
The Ooni further prayed for divine blessings, peace, prosperity, and renewed hope across the country, wishing Muslims a joyful, peaceful, and spiritually fulfilling Eid-ul-Kabir celebration.
