The Ooni of Ife, Arole Oduduwa, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security initiative founded by Yoruba Nation advocate, Sunday Adeyemo.

The donation was announced on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by Chief Sunday Igboho and members of the Iru Ekun Security Network to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, where the monarch reaffirmed his commitment to initiatives aimed at strengthening community security and safeguarding lives and property across Yorubaland.

According to a statement issued by the Senior Media Officer at the Ooni’s Palace, Sodiq Lawal, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the Ooni described the establishment of the Iru Ekun Security Network as a timely intervention that complements existing security structures in protecting communities.

The monarch praised Chief Sunday Igboho for what he described as remarkable courage, resilience and dedication to the collective safety of the Yoruba people, stressing that meaningful leadership is measured by selfless service and practical contributions to society.

The Ooni noted that security remains the bedrock of sustainable development, adding that every responsible son and daughter of Oduduwa has a role to play in promoting peace, unity and prosperity throughout Yorubaland.

He explained that the ₦100 million donation and the Hilux vehicle were not merely acts of financial support but clear demonstrations of his belief in community-driven efforts that promote peace, communal harmony and the protection of lives.

“I commend Chief Sunday Igboho for taking a bold step towards strengthening community security. Protecting our people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious and ideological differences. Every initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support,” the Ooni said.

The foremost traditional ruler further appealed to eminent Yoruba sons and daughters, traditional rulers, traditionalists, business leaders, professionals, community stakeholders and members of the Yoruba diaspora to support the Iru Ekun Security Network in its mission of enhancing grassroots security.

Describing Sunday Igboho as a courageous patriot, the Ooni said history would remember individuals who rise to defend their people during challenging times.

“Our strength lies in our unity. When we speak with one voice and work together, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland. This is the time for all lovers of Yoruba culture and heritage to unite for a common purpose,” he added.

Responding, Chief Sunday Igboho expressed profound appreciation to the Ooni for the generous support, describing the monarch as a father figure whose leadership, humility and unwavering commitment to Yoruba unity continue to inspire millions around the world.

According to him, the visit was intended not only to update the monarch on the progress of the Iru Ekun Security Network but also to seek his royal blessings, guidance and continued endorsement for the initiative.

“The Ooni is the father of all Yoruba people worldwide. He is God’s gift to our race. His love for the Yoruba nation, humility and kindness distinguish him among traditional rulers. I have come to receive his royal blessings as we continue our mission of protecting our people,” Igboho stated.

Chief Igboho also disclosed plans to convene a security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to deliberate on practical and sustainable solutions to the security challenges facing the region.

He revealed that, subject to the approval and blessings of the Ooni, the proposed summit is expected to be hosted at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, regarded as the ancestral and spiritual headquarters of the Yoruba people.

He reaffirmed that the Iru Ekun Security Network remains committed to operating within the framework of the law while collaborating with relevant security agencies, local communities and other stakeholders in advancing intelligence gathering, community policing and peaceful coexistence across Yorubaland.
