Isese: Group Urges Tinubu to Intervene on Ilorin Impasse


Group under the umbrella of  The Ancient Religion Societies of African Descendants International Council (ARSADIC), has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the Muslim/Isese adherents tussle in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The leader of the group, Asiwaju Awo Agbaye, High Priest Ifagenusola Atanda stated this at a Press Conference in Ile-Ife on on Tuesday.

He also called on the Inspector General of Police(IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to restrain the Kwara State Commissioner of Police(CP), Ebun Oluwarotimi Adelesi from arbitrary arrest of their members in the State.

They urged the IGP to investigate the CP over the recent arrest and detention of their members in the state.

"We are all Nigerians and we demand for equality in the manner we are treated in relation to serving whom we believe without any bias.

"The FG should work on sustaining the peaceful coexistence among all religious faithfuls in the country to prevent the unwanted". He admonished.

He condemned a recent clash between an Isese worshipper, Yeye Ajeaikemi Olokun and Muslims on festival of Yemoja River in Ilorin Kwara State.

According to him, the three religionists, Christians, Muslims and traditionalists have been living together peacefully and performing their spiritual rites without any rancour for the ages past.

"Nigeria Constitution allows freedom of practicing religion of choices, why should Priestess Olatunji disturbed from performing her fundamental human right on her religion.

He called on the Kwara State House of Assembly, the Royal Fathers, Local Government Chairmen, State Governor and other stakeholders to rise up to the task.

Atanda maintained that traditionalists would not fold their arms and be watching their members and their religion to be trashed into mud, saying "to be fore warned is to be for harmed".

The Asiwaju Awo Agbaye appealed to the traditionalists to remain calm in the situation of things without resorting to any form of violence.

"We call on President Bola Tinubu to restrain Kwara State Government from banning traditionalists from worshipping and celebrating their festivals as an exercise of their rights.", he stated.
