OAU Commends Varsity's Don's Appointment as UNIMED Vice-Chancellor


The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, has commended the appointment of Professor Ebunoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo.

In a congratulatory message, Professor Bamire described the appointment as a recognition of Professor Adejuyigbe’s leadership, academic excellence, and dedication to institutional development.

“This prestigious appointment is a testament to her distinguished contributions to academia and the medical profession. It also reflects the enduring legacy of excellence that OAU continues to uphold,” he stated.

Professor Bamire emphasized the historic collaboration between OAU and UNIMED, which was further strengthened during the tenure of UNIMED’s second Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adesegun Fatusi, an alumnus of OAU.

He expressed confidence that Professor Adejuyigbe’s leadership would enhance this partnership, fostering advancements in medical education, research, and healthcare delivery.

“Just as Professor Fatusi’s leadership contributed significantly to UNIMED’s development, we believe Professor Adejuyigbe’s vast experience and commitment to academic excellence will further propel the institution’s growth,” he added.

A renowned Professor of Paediatrics, Professor Adejuyigbe currently serves as the Executive Director of OAU’s Central Office of Research and a Consultant Paediatrician at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital.

She has held key leadership positions, including Dean of OAU’s Faculty of Clinical Sciences and Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine. She is also actively involved in international health organizations, such as the African Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases.

Concluding his remarks, Professor Bamire extended his best wishes to Professor Adejuyigbe, expressing confidence in her ability to lead UNIMED effectively.

“On behalf of OAU’s Senate, staff, and students, I congratulate Professor Adejuyigbe on this well-deserved appointment.
