In response to circulating narratives surrounding her recent visit to the sacred Osun Osogbo Grove, Her Majesty, Olori Ashely Afolashade Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has clarified the purpose of her presence, reaffirming its spiritual significance.
In a statement addressing the development, the Queen explained that her visit to the Osun Grove in Osogbo was strictly in fulfillment of obligations tied to her title as Yeye Omi Oodua, noting that the exercise was part of preparations for the forthcoming Odun Omi festival at the palace of the Ooni of Ife in Ile-Ife.
“My presence at the Osun Grove was strictly in fulfillment of spiritual obligations tied to my title as Yeye Omi Oodua,” she stated.
She further explained the intent of the visit, emphasizing its spiritual focus and connection to upcoming traditional observances.
“The purpose of the visit, as clearly reflected in the available video, was to offer prayers and make due appeasement to the Osun River in preparation for the forthcoming Odun Omi, which is to be held in the palace of the Oonirisa, my husband, in Otu Ife,” she said.
Addressing interactions during the visit, Olori Ashely noted that engagements with worshippers were rooted in respect for tradition and not indicative of any formal consultation.
“In the spirit of reverence and tradition, it was only proper to extend courtesy and acknowledgment to the Osun worshippers in Oshogbo. This act was one of respect, not of consultation or declaration,” she added.
She also dismissed claims suggesting any discussions or decisions regarding the hosting of the festival outside Ile-Ife.
“At no point was there any meeting or engagement with any monarch regarding the hosting of the festival in Oshogbo river, nor was any announcement made in such regard,” she stated.
Reaffirming the spiritual authority of Ile-Ife, the Queen emphasized its central place in Yoruba heritage and tradition.
“It is important to reaffirm that Ile Ife remains the sacred source, the cradle of all, ‘gbogbo ọmọ kárò o jíre.’ This heritage and spiritual authority guide all that we do,” she said.
Olori Ashely also reiterated her allegiance to her husband, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, and the throne he represents, stressing the importance of preserving its dignity.
“My husband, Oonirisa Olori Alade Gbogbo, and the throne he represents will always be upheld with the utmost honor and dignity. Any narrative that suggests otherwise does not reflect the truth and should be respectfully disregarded,” she added.
She concluded by reaffirming a commitment to preserving tradition with clarity and respect.
“We remain committed to preserving the sanctity of our traditions, with clarity, respect, and unwavering allegiance to our roots.”
