Yoruba Traditional Religious Leaders Converge, Set Up "Irorun Ile Kaaro Oojire"


Leaders of prominent Yoruba traditional and religious interest groups across the South-West on Saturday converged in the ancient City of Ile-Ife, the spiritual headquarters of the Yoruba race to dialogue on pressing security issues affecting the region.

The National Traditional Secretary and Head, Legal Affairs, Obatala Agbaye Temple, Ile-Ife, Aare Oladotun Hassan, Esq who led the team, in a release on Tuesday said the summit was in a bid to build a common synergy among all Yoruba traditional and other religious faith leaders so as to jointly cub the excesses of criminals in Yoruba Land.

The summit among others culminated in the establishment of a special coordinating security group named; "Irorun Ile Kaaro Oojire", an internal traditional security network to help strengthen the security formations in the region. 

The new indigenous security unit, the statement added will be responsible for the management and coordination of all affairs relating to the "fortifications and sanctification of Yoruba Land(F'olumo) through concerted synergy among all Yoruba traditional and spiritual leaders."

The statement reads in part: "In line with Yoruba traditional efficacy of our ancient powers and sophisticated methodology and concerted approach in fighting crimes and criminality in our society, unfortunately mostly jettisoned or abandoned by our Traditional Religious leaders and other Yoruba stakeholders for many years, but for necessity of the current spate of kidnappings and merciless killings, terrorist attacks and daily cases of cultism, prostitution, robbery and other wanton crimes, which has now gotten to the appalling height of embarrassments and highest crescendo of disgrace that criminals now invade Palace to kidnap and maim innocent lives.

"In a bid to revive and promote the Yoruba socio-cultural affinity and reconnect with our roots on security management, adequate welfare and robust unity amongst our people in Yoruba Land and by extension Nigeria at large, The President of the Apex Yoruba Youth interest group; Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide, YCYW, Aare Barr. Oladotun Hassan, Eyinju Eledumare led leaders of various Traditional and Spiritual groups to Ile-Ife on Saturday 27th November, 2021 under the global supremacy of His Divine Grace, Oba (Isoro) O.O.O. Dada, Obalesun Obatala Agbaye, Arole Obatala Agbaye who played host to Yoruba leaders to navigate a positive path on the need to convoke an Emergency Security Summit held at the Obatala Temple, Igbo Tapa, Ile-Ife.

"Matters of security and welfare were critically examined at the summit for all possible solutions, in view of the protracted state of insecurity facing the Southwestern parts of Nigeria, which is fast becoming a normal daily routine. News of serial killings, kidnappings, money rituals to mention a few, claiming lives and properties of our people.
