Governors of the South-West region have convened in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, for an emergency security meeting aimed at addressing the growing infiltration of bandits and other criminal elements into the region.
The closed-door meeting, which brought together all six governors under the South-West Governors’ Forum, was called in response to heightened security concerns and recent intelligence reports warning of increased movement of armed groups from other parts of the country.
Sources within the forum say the governors are expected to review the current security architecture in the region, strengthen inter-state collaboration, and evaluate the operational capacity of the Amotekun Corps in light of emerging threats.
Discussions are also anticipated to focus on reinforcing border communities, improving surveillance, and enhancing synergy with federal security agencies.
The session underscores the governors’ collective determination to prevent a spillover of violence into the South-West, protect citizens, and ensure stability across the geopolitical zone.
Details of the resolutions reached at the meeting are expected to be made public at the end of the deliberations.
