Professor Segun Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has officially assumed office as the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who concluded a decade-long tenure at the nation’s tertiary admissions agency.
The formal handover took place on Friday following Aina’s appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the new Registrar of JAMB.
The appointment was announced by the Presidency in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
A specialist in digital infrastructure, national examination systems and institutional reform, Professor Aina brings extensive academic and professional experience to the role. According to the Presidency, he has spent more than 15 years advising federal and state governments on digital transformation, institutional reforms and systems design.
Professor Aina earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom. He also holds a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. In addition, he completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Beyond academia, he has served as a consultant to key national examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), where he contributed to the development of ICT systems and initiatives aimed at strengthening examination integrity and improving the credibility of public examinations.
The Presidency described Professor Aina as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering, noting that his appointment also makes him the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB.
President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would consolidate on the reforms and achievements recorded during Professor Oloyede’s administration while further strengthening the efficiency, credibility and digital transformation of the Board’s operations.
Professor Oloyede, who served as JAMB Registrar for 10 years, is widely credited with driving significant reforms in the Board’s operations, particularly in the areas of examination administration, transparency and institutional efficiency. His handover to Professor Aina marks the beginning of a new phase in the leadership of Nigeria’s foremost tertiary admissions agency.
