HOW TO APPLY FOR THE 2021 UK GOVERNMENT'S CHEVENING SCHOLARDHIP

The Federal Scholarship Board under the Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja has released application guidelines for the 2021 United Kingdom Chevening Scholarship. The Board management in a release on Monday stated that the application for the scholarship which offers financial scholarship for Master's Degree studies in any UK University as well as gaining access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional and cultural experiences is open to all eligible Nigerians.  Interested applicants, according to the release are to visit the the application page at www.chevening.org/scholarship for detailed information and then apply. The statement further noted that the application opened to candidates on 3rd of August and will close on 2nd November 12:00 GMT, 2021 and that the Board can be contacted via 09082454557 or 08075247831 or visit www.chevening.org for more information.

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife has announced the appointment of Professor Bola Babalola and Professor Yomi Daramola as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration respectively. This was contained in a media release on the institution's official Instagram handle @oauniversity as obtained by Ife City Blog on Sunday. According to the release, the appointment of the erudite scholars became imperative for the sustenance of the smooth Professor Ogunbodede-led Vice-Chancellorship. The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has emphasized the need for all the members of the University community to always observe the Covid-19 safety protocols as the institution resumes for the 2019/2020 Rain Semester. This was contained in a special release signed by the University Registrar, M. I Omosule and obtained by Ife City Blog on Thursday. According to the release, all students are expected to come into residence from June 19th, 2021 while lecture will start on Monday 21st, June, 2021 and it will take a hybrid form. Academic activities were on Wednesday paralyzed at the campus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife following a protest staged by the university chapter members of the striking Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions NASU, shutting all the entrances leading to the institution. Speaking with Ife City Blog, one of the striking worker who pleaded anonymity said the strike will continue as long as the Federal Government refused to honor their demands. OAU ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES, SCRAPS 2020/2021 SESSION

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife has announced February 8, 2021 as the resumption date for the continuation of the 2019/2020 Academic Session. This was contained in a special release signed by the University's Registrar, M.I. Omosule. According to the release, the institution has also cancelled the 2020/2021 academic session and expressed its  strong position on the prevention of the spread of the Covid-19 as it spelt out a list of the government approved safety protocols. Education Minister, Prof. Adamu Adamu The Federal Government on Monday announced its resolve to review the earlier pronounced 18th of January, 2021 as the resumption date for schools across the country. This was contained in a statement made by the Honorable Minister of Education, Prof. Adamu Adamu during a briefing of the Presidential Task Force(PTF) on Covid-19. According to the minister, a rethink on the resumption date for schools earlier communicated becomes imperative given the alarming figures of the second wave Covid-19 cases. "Today at the PTF meeting, we looked at the rising figures and decided that probably we should take another look at the date. OSUN EDUCATION: STATE GOVERNMENT RESTRAINS SCHOOL AUTHORITIES FROM TRADING UNIFORMS

The  State Government of Osun has  banned principals and other school authorities in the State from selling or disturbing uniforms to students.  This was disclosed by the State commissioner for information and Civic orientation, Mrs. Funke Egbemode while addressing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday, November 9, 2020. She stated that the new arrangement is part of the government resolves to reviewing certain extant educational policies in the State as earlier announced which include a reversal to the old schools uniforms practice as against the current monotonous policy of using the same uniform by all the schools, scheduled to take effect from the 2020/2021 academic session.  According to her, "The Council decided that no school authority or principal is allowed to assume the duty of selling or distributing uniforms to students. NEW ERA FOR TEACHERS AS BUHARI APPROVES SPECIAL SALARY SCALE, INCREASES SERVICE YEARS TO 40

By Kayode Olawuni The Federal Government has approved a special salary structure for all teachers in the country. This was disclosed at the occasion of this year's edition of the World Teachers Day celebrations held at Eagle Square, Abuja today Monday 5th of October, 2020. Represented by the minister of education, Prof. Adamu Adamu, President Buhari asserted that the reviewed salary scale for the teachers is geared towards motivating them for greater productivity and effectiness. This is in addition to the extension of the service years of the teachers from 35 to 40 years announced by the education minister at the occasion as approved by Mr. President.  The event also featured the conferment of awards of excellence to deserving teachers. Details of the new national teaching policy is as follows:  Establishment of a special salary scale. Retirement by age is now 65. Retirement by service is now 40. BREAKING: FG ORDERS REOPENING OF SCHOOLS

By Kayode Olawuni Education Minister, Prof Adamu Adamu The Federal Government has ordered that all unity schools in the country be reopened by October 12, 2020. This was disclosed by the minister of education, Prof. Adamu Adamu during a press briefing with newsmen in Abuja and made available in a document at the Ministry's official Twitter handle @NigEducation. "Consequently, after due consultation with the presidential Committee on COVID-19, we have decided that all our 104 Unity Colleges should reopen on the 12th of October, 2020", the document read in part. The resumption date however does not affect the state and private owned institutions as according to him, "States and private school owners will work out modalities for the opening of schools under their purview". The minister stressed government's Commitment at ensuring that all institutions both public and private are complying with all the Covid-19 safety guidelines as prescribed by authorities.
