The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, in Ile-Ife, as Governor Ademola Adeleke ordered the immediate arrest of persons allegedly involved in the incident.
Oyeyemi, a known associate of the Osun State Governor and a member of the Accord Party, was reportedly shot on Sunday, September 13, 2026, amid a dispute linked to the leadership and control of a motor park in Ile-Ife.
According to the Osun State Police Command, its operatives were initially alerted to an accident around the Energy Filling Station in Ile-Ife and were subsequently deployed to restore normalcy, secure the area and commence investigation.
The Command said preliminary investigation established that Oyeyemi, also known as Emir, had been shot, adding that detectives were working to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the incident, identify those responsible and bring anyone found culpable to justice.
The police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the Command was taking necessary investigative and operational measures to get to the root of the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, meanwhile, condemned the shooting and appealed to residents to remain calm and law-abiding.
The Commissioner also warned against reprisal attacks, violence and destruction of property, urging residents of Ile-Ife and other parts of Osun State to cooperate with the police by providing useful information that could assist the investigation.
Reacting to the killing, Governor Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police to immediately arrest all persons allegedly involved, stressing that there would be no sacred cows and that anyone found culpable must face the law.
The Governor also directed rival groups involved in the motor park leadership dispute to immediately vacate the affected parks and ordered security agencies to restore normalcy and maintain law and order across the affected areas.
As part of measures to address recurring disputes surrounding the management of motor parks and garages, Adeleke announced plans to reintroduce the Park Management System across Osun State.
The Governor said an Executive Order would soon be issued to give effect to the new management structure for parks and garages across the state.
The development has heightened concerns over security and the management of transport parks in Ile-Ife, with authorities now facing the task of preventing further escalation while determining the circumstances surrounding Oyeyemi’s death.
For now, the police investigation remains ongoing, and the Command has called on members of the public to remain calm and support efforts to establish the facts of the incident and bring anyone found responsible to justice.
