OSUN LAWMAKER HAILS PRESIDENT BUHARI'S INVOLVEMENT OF TRADITIONAL RULERS IN ADDRESSING NATIONAL SECURITY CHALLENGES

The Honourable Member representing Ife East State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olajide Adeyeye Martins has lauded the President Buhari led administration for valuing the inputs of the traditional rulers in tackling the security challenges currently facing the country, describing it as a wise move.

Honourable Adeyeye stated this on Wednesday while featuring on "Oro Tonlo", a weekly Current Affairs programme on Orisun 89.5FM, Oke Itase Ile-Ife, Osun State. According to him, internal security is better managed with the advise and contributions of the traditional  rulers as the closest institutions to the people.

He expressed worry over the spate of insecurity in the country which he said calls for holistic and inclusive measures of which the engagement of native institutions is a key one.

"The move by the Federal Government under President Muhamadu Buhari to engage traditional rulers in addressing the insecurity situations in the country is a wise and tactical one. It is like going back to the way it was done in the past, allowing for the application of experience and indigenous security eknowledge of the native leaders in their domain.

"The insecurity condition in the country has reached an alarming rate. I could remember back then when I could leave Osogbo by 7:Pm and upon getting to Ife, if there was an urgent need could leave Ife by 8:Pm heading back to Osogbo. Now you can't safely travel by 6:Pm not to talk in the dead night".

The Lawmaker who is also serving as the Chairman, House Ad-hoc Committee on Agriculture and Food Security in the State's 7th Assembly however used the occasion to emphasize the role of legislators as facilitators of developmental projects to their respective constituencies from the State or the Federal Government as the case may be and this he said has been the hallmark of his stewardship to the community he represents.
