Correctional Service Launches Manhunt for Seven Escaped Inmates from Osun Prison

The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has launched a comprehensive manhunt for seven inmates who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.

According to a statement issued by the Service’s Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, the inmates fled the facility around 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, following the collapse of a section of the prison wall caused by a heavy downpour.

Abubakar described the incident as a "force majeure" and confirmed that seven inmates managed to escape during the breach.

The Controller-General of the Correctional Service, Sylvester Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Service is currently collaborating with sister security agencies and local community leaders to ensure the swift recapture of the escapees.

“The Service is working closely with sister security agencies as well as community leaders to recapture the escapees and bring them back to custody,” the statement read.

The NCoS has also appealed to members of the public for assistance, urging anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest security agency or contact the NCoS Response Desk via the lines: 07087086005, 09060004598, 08075050006.

The Correctional Service assured the public of its commitment to maintaining security and order, and reiterated its resolve to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
